Witchblade #1 stands on a blurry rooftop

I won’t lie, I’ve never read a Witchblade book before. I’m not incredibly familiar with what her deal is or what this character is all about. I don’t even know if Sara Pezzini is a reboot of the original Witchblade character or a new protagonist entirely. Lucky for me, Witchblade #1 was written for people who know nothing about the character.

In one issue, we manage to get the most important parts of her origin in a way that tells us who Sara is, what she believes in, and what kind of hero she can be. Many other comics take entire arcs to do this, and do so in less exciting ways.

The pacing of the story is brisk in the best way, and never wastes a panel, let alone a page. I’m sure those who are familiar with Witchblade will appreciate not having to see her origin for the umpteenth time. And even for them, Witchblade #1 manages to crame in some stunning actions preceded by stunning art. Giuseppe Cafaro’s art style may seem familiar at first, but he captures movement better than most comics. He even manages to make the main character’s skin-color armor look more like armor than previous artists I saw as I was making the thumbnail.

The only real downside is that, since it’s the first issue of a reboot, it doesn’t have much time to do much else besides set up the main character. This isn’t the sort of starting issue that’s going to change what you think about Witchblade. It more so makes the series more digestible than it’s ever been before.

Try Out Witchblade #1 and Tell Me What You Think

Like I said, I’m not a witchblade fan, so I would be very interested to hear what other people think. Is this a toned down version of the character in some ways but not in others? Were there any surprises that a new fan like me would miss? Let me know in the comments, like, and suscribe.

And as for all things Something Central, check out my last video about my favorite character tropes, or read about on the blog. I’m a writer by trade, or at least I want to be, and that video is where I’m putting more of my writing ideas. Check out the Youtube Channel and the website, like, comment, and subscribe. Thank you!
